Year 2 - Little Peppers

Welcome to Little Peppers Year 2!

I'm absolutely thrilled to be leading our Year 2 class this year, and I can't wait to embark on this exciting journey of learning and discovery with your children. It promises to be an incredible year, filled with opportunities for growth and exploration.

In our first term, we'll be diving into the captivating pages of history with our intriguing topic, "The Great Fire of London." We have a range of hands-on activities planned, from baking delicious bread to creating intricate models of 17th-century houses. Through diaries and letters, we'll also sharpen our writing skills while immersing ourselves in the events of that time. Alongside our historical exploration, we'll address the vital topic of fire safety in today's world, contrasting it with the challenges faced in 1666. This ties in seamlessly with our Science curriculum, where we'll investigate the properties of everyday materials.

As we transition into the spring term, we'll step back in time to the era of knights and castles. Our young historians will uncover the rich history of medieval castles and the Normans, exploring where these magnificent structures were built, who inhabited them, and the intricate designs they held. Additionally, we'll gain insights into the lives of people in the Middle Ages, from the privileged to the less fortunate.

For our final term, we'll embark on an exciting global adventure, taking a virtual tour 'around the world. We will visit each of the seven continents, immersing themselves in the cultures, landmarks, and people of different countries. As a special highlight, we'll journey to College Lake in Tring for habitat workshops, aiming to inspire our children to become stewards of our planet and make a positive impact on the environment.

Throughout the year, our Maths lessons will focus on building confidence in numbers and place value, developing problem-solving skills through addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We'll also delve into the world of fractions, measurement, time-telling, coin recognition, and the properties of shapes. By the end of the year, our young mathematicians will have a well-rounded mathematical toolkit to help transition into Key Stage 2.

We are committed to fostering high standards of literacy and language. We encourage our students to explore a wide range of books and texts, with a strong emphasis on comprehension alongside decoding skills. We believe in nurturing curious minds and igniting a lifelong passion for reading.

I'm looking forward to a year filled with fun, growth, and exploration with you and your children. Together, we'll make Year 2 an extraordinary and unforgettable experience.
