Year 6 - Great Oaks

Welcome to Year 6 – Great Oaks!

Our teachers are Mrs Birley and Mrs Shead and we work together with our LSAs, Mrs Kirby, Miss Saunders and Mrs Hance.

As the oldest pupils in the school, we know that we have new and exciting responsibilities. We are the House Captains and prefects and therefore we are also the role models of the school’s core values: respect, team work, responsibility, understanding, peace and honesty.

In the Autumn Term, we will explore some fantastic topics, from rivers and mountains in Geography to classifying living organisms in Science. We will visit the River Chess to explore our local river to further our learning.

Later in the year, we will be immersed in all things Victorian – from literature to Design and Technology. We are all looking forward to our Victorian Day and the opportunity to experience what school would have been like in the 19th Century.

The Summer Term will bring challenges in the form of SATs but also continued interesting learning opportunities, looking at the Maya in History and Evolution and Inheritance in Science.  We will be experiencing our second residential trip to Kingswood in Kent and are already looking forward to the adventures we will have there.  Other highlights in our final term at Primary School will include leading the KS2 production and organising a Mini Enterprise to raise money.

We know that as we work hard together and rise to the challenges of Year 6, we will make the most of all learning opportunities and hold high aspirations for ourselves as we reach our goals, both in and outside the classroom.
