World Book Day
World Book Day 2024
Thank you for supporting us here at Hawridge and Cholesbury for another fantastic World Book Day 2024! There were some fabulous costumes and it was great to see such a wide range of book characters. Not only were the children and staff dressed as their favourite book characters, our classroom doors joined in the fun too! An ever-popular part of the day for the children was the Teachers Reading Relay where the tension was high to see who appeared through the door next ready to continue the class reading book. Here are some photos from the special day..
World Book Day 2023
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 2nd March. Look out for our World Book Day letter, which will give more information about how we are celebrating this special day at Hawridge and Cholesbury CE School.
Each class has been given a budget of £15-£20 to create the most effective book corner. The children will be involved with designing and creating the book corners. All children will vote for their favourite and the winning class will be announced on World Book Day (2nd March). The winning class will be awarded a selection of new books for their book corner. I wonder who will win..
Past World Book Day Highlights
Thank you to all the staff, parents and children for making our first 'virtual' World Book Day such a success. The family challenge, class World Book Day Zoom calls, virtual author visits in conjunction with Our Bookshop, Tring and the special video from our staff bookworms all added to the celebrations! (See the World Book Day Assembly on eSchools for the Staff Bookworms video)
Many families and children joined in with the Family Challenge based on our theme...
'Be inspired to read'
With book themed cooking, special reading dens and chairs, poetry, acting out stories, design a reading superhero and much, much more.
Here are some of the wonderful results of World Book Day Family Challenges enjoyed by children at home and in school...
Thank you to Our Bookshop, Tring for inviting us to take part in their special author events. Reception and KS1 were treated to two story readings and an art class with the hilarious author, comedian and illustrator Olaf Falafel. During the question and answer session we were excited and proud to hear one of the questions sent in by a child in Windmills class being put to Olaf. Please see the link below to watch a recording of the event on YouTube.
Our duck illustrations from the art class with Olaf Falafel inspired by his book 'Old MacDonald heard a parp'...
Key Stage 2 children also took part in the virtual session with local author Hannah Gold who launched her first book, The Last Bear. If you missed this session please click on the link below to watch the World Book Day special launch.
Our Bookshop, Tring are continuing to offer live author events to local families and children and we look forward to joining in with some more sessions in the future. What a lovely opportunity for children to see and hear from the authors behind the books.
